The differences between a Certified Collision Center and a Non-Certified Body Shop can impact your safety, your vehicle’s performance, and its long-term value.
Required to use OEM approved tooling & equipment. Tooling requirements are updated regularly to meet the changing needs of new vehicle technologies.
Not required to use OEM approved tooling. May not have the specialized equipment needed for the safe, proper repair of your modern vehicle.
Required to follow OEM Repair Procedures, which provide clear details on how to restore your vehicle to pre-accident quality and safety, according to the car maker’s engineers who designed it.
Not required to follow OEM Repair Procedures. Instead, your repair will be negotiated between the shop and insurance appraiser, based on their opinion of how to sufficiently repair your vehicle for the lowest cost.
Required to perform multi-point Safety Inspections, and Pre & Post-Scans to identify & resolve all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Not required to perform safety inspections or scans. DTCs may not be identified which could compromise your vehicle’s safety. ADAS components (cameras, sensors, etc.) may not function properly if vehicle isn’t calibrated correctly.
Required to participate in on-going Advanced Training so technicians learn the skills required to perform safe, proper repairs on all modern vehicles.
Continuing education is not required for collision techs. Without current training, techs are unable to repair your vehicle properly.
Required to use Genuine OEM Parts, which are engineered and tested to help maintain vehicle safety & performance.
Not required to use OEM Parts. Most likely to use cheaper Aftermarket parts which may impair the safety & performance of your vehicle.
